Marcia Cooper has been exhibiting her painting, sculpture and installation work since 1988. Recent reviews include "Between the Trees", a series of site-specific works installed on the grounds of Smith Castle in Wickford, Rhode Island, which were described by "Art New England" as "evoking the indigenous belief in a world in which art, nature and human are inseparable" ; and an exhibition on drawing at the Islip Art Museum, NY; in which the "New York Times" noted her use of non-traditional materials "have been imaginatively adapted as graphic devices".
Additional recent exhibitions include "Art at War, the Artist's Voice" at the Aldo Castillo Gallery, Chicago; "Space Invaders: Six Installation Artists" at the University of Indiana Art Gallery, Terre Haute; work selected by Lisa Dennison, Deputy Director of the Guggenheim Museum for the "National Prize Show" in Cambridge, MA, and the bi-annual "Two Person National Exhibition" at the Contemporary Arts Center in Mesa, Arizonia. Ms. Cooper has also received numerous awards and honors for her work, by among others, museum curator Francesco Bonami, Madeleine Grynsztejn, and art critic and writer Amei Wallach.
Born in NYC, Ms. Cooper currently lives and works in NYC and Dutchess County where she maintains studios in Long Island City and Millerton, NY. Her most recent projects involve video, digital photogrpahy and incorporating projected images into her sculpture and installation pieces.
